A New Family Systems Therapeutic Approach for Parents and Families of Sexual Minority Youth

This webinar is aimed at parents and families with children struggling with sexual identity. We are grateful to be joined by licensed psychotherapist Christopher Doyle. We look at the family systems approach popularised by psychiatrist Murray Bowen on how a person cannot be fully separated from their family relational system.

Christopher Doyle, LPC, CCTP

Christopher Doyle, LPC, CCTP is a licensed psychotherapist and the Executive Director of the Institute for Healthy Families, a non-profit Judeo-Christian therapeutic organization in the Washington, D.C. area. He is also the Founder and Clinical Director of Northern Virginia Christian Counseling, specializing in the integration of psychology and theology in counseling. He is the author of The War on Psychotherapy: When Sexual Politics, Gender Ideology, and Mental Health Collide (2019) and The Meaning of Sex: A New Christian Ethos (2018). His first book, Benefits of Delaying Sexual Debut (now in its second edition), was featured at the National HIV Prevention Conference and International Abstinence Leaders Conference. He is also the author of the film and bullying prevention curriculum Acception

Christopher regularly speaks to audiences on faith and sexuality and travels extensively in his therapeutic work with families struggling with sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity. He has delivered presentations at the American Physicians and Surgeons Conference, American College of Pediatricians/Pro-Life OBGYN’s Conference, Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity, North American Christians in Social Work Conference, Converge Pastors Conference, and Catholic Association of Latino Leaders. He has also been featured in six documentaries, including Voices of the Silenced (Core Issues Trust), The Third Way: Homosexuality and the Catholic Church (Blackstone Films), Inside Out (Adam Perez), and The Sunday Sessions (Dickie Bruce Productions), a 2017 independent documentary on his work.

A widely-published author, Christopher’s articles can be seen in Issues in Law & MedicineJournal of Human Sexuality, as well as many print and online outlets, including Townhall, World Net Daily, and The Christian Post. He has been interviewed in hundreds of media outlets, and has been a guest on numerous radio and television shows, including The Dr. Oz. Show, Fox News Radio, National Public Radio, American Family Radio, and the Christian Broadcasting Network. His work has been featured in USA Today, CNN, Associated Press, ABC/Fusion, NBC News, AOL, BuzzFeed, Washington Post, World Magazine, Atlantic Magazine, National Catholic Register, and many more.

Christopher is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Board Approved Supervisor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He earned his master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Grove City College. Over the last thirteen years of clinical practice, he has either created or co-created several therapeutic retreats, including the Break-Free Your Inner Child healing retreat for men, Key to Your Child’s Heart retreat for parents of LGBT-identified children, and the Healing the Family therapeutic family intensive program. When he’s not facilitating retreats or working with families in intensive therapy, Christopher is a proud father to his five amazing children!
